When it comes to supplements, price doesn’t always tell you much about quality. Take fish oil, for example.
A study from 2015 found that many fish oil supplements didn’t actually contain the levels of EPA and DHA (the good stuff) that were listed on their labels. In fact, only 3 out of 32 brands tested met the claims on their packaging.
Here’s the deal: while pricier supplements were a bit more likely to deliver what they promised, they were just as likely to be oxidized (which means they’ve gone a little rancid) as cheaper options.
So, what should you do? It’s smart to compare prices across different brands. If most are in the same ballpark but one is significantly cheaper, it could be cutting corners. On the flip side, if one is way more expensive without having anything special in its ingredients, you might just be paying for their marketing or helping boost their profit margin.
